Switching Editors

February 22, 2025 · meta , tools

I’ve been using the same editor for years. Last month I switched. Here’s what happened.

The good: Fresh keybindings forced me to relearn. I discovered workflows I’d never tried. The new setup is faster for certain tasks—multi-cursor, regex find/replace, terminal integration.

The bad: Muscle memory is real. I kept typing the old shortcuts. Context switching between machines (one with old config, one with new) was painful. Some plugins I relied on don’t exist here.

The verdict: I’m sticking with it for now. The learning curve paid off. But I’m not dogmatic—if something better comes along, I’ll switch again. Tools serve the work. The work doesn’t serve the tools.
